Coffee shops are one of the first things I research after booking my trip. You will not find me wasting my morning latte or afternoon cold brew in a subpar cafe. When looking for a coffee shop the espresso quality and atmosphere are my main ranking priorities. I also try to find spots that locals visit and have a neighborhood feel. If you’re headed to NOLA and in need of a caffeine fix I’ve got you covered. I’ve visited all the best New Orleans coffee shops and have listed my TOP 5 New Orleans cafes!

New Orleans coffee shops - TOP 5 New Orleans Cafes
1. French Truck Coffee - Multiple Locations
One of the BEST New Orleans coffee shops for a quick break while exploring the French Quarter
French Truck Coffee is my top pick for New Orleans coffee shops. It's a local favorite and has 4 (soon to be 5) locations in New Orleans to prove it. The location at 217 Chartres Street is a perfect spot while exploring the French Quarter and the 2 locations in the Garden District are convenient while shopping and gallery hopping around Magazine Street. I love their New Orleans Iced Coffee that has a hint of Chicory.

2. Stumptown Coffee Roasters - Warehouse District
One of the best coffee shops in New Orleans for nitro cold brew and a cozy place to work
Portland based Stumptown earns a spot on the list of best coffee shops in New Orleans for its atmosphere and quality. Sharing space with the ultra hipster Ace Hotel, this New Orleans cafe is perfect to lounge while enjoying your nitro cold brew (my favorite) or oat milk latte. You’ll love their brass custom Mod Bar if pour overs are your thing. A small but delicious pastry selection arrives fresh daily from Josephine Estelle. Stumptown seems to be a popular spot for remote workers as there is plenty of table space both on the Stumptown side and the connected Ace Hotel lounge to spread out.
3. Mammoth Espresso - Warehouse District
One of the best New Orleans coffee shops for a legit flat white
This small New Orleans cafe is located in the heart of the Warehouse District. Mammoth Espresso offers craft espresso drinks in a contemporary and bright space. There are a few tables and window seats available if you want to linger over your perfectly poured flat white. They also offer breakfast tacos and specialty treats that change depending on the season or day. Try the "sweet little thing" which is an espresso cold shaken with vanilla and cream and topped with a dash of cocktail bitters. The "golden latte" is another popular pick at this New Orleans coffee shop.
4. Cherry Coffee Roasters and Cherry Espresso Bar - Multiple Locations
Cherry Coffee Roasters on Magazine Street is one of the best coffee shops in New Orleans for a quiet place to work
Cherry has two locations with two completely different vibes. Cherry Coffee Roasters is located on Magazine Street in Uptown. It’s the smaller of the two locations, has a modern and chic feel with vintage touches. Dark colors throughout, wood tones, and velvet accents make this Uptown location a sleek place to grab a cup and work a while. Even though this is the smaller location, there is still plenty of seating at the window countertop, coffee bar counter, and several tables and chairs throughout.
Cherry Espresso bar is one of the best coffee shops in New Orleans for breakfast and afternoon snacks
Cherry Espresso bar has a larger footprint and a hipster vibe with rustic brick walls, exposed pipes, and an all wood coffee counter. This Lower Garden District location feels like a neighborhood coffee shop and also serves a nice breakfast and lunch. Expect a crowd during breakfast on the weekends and try the popular quinoa breakfast or Cuban breakfast. This is one of the best New Orleans coffee shops to visit if you're looking for a solid food menu.
5. Mojo Coffee House – Multiple Locations
One of the best New Orleans coffee shops for a local vibe
Like Cherry, Mojo has one location in Uptown on Magazine street and another in the Lower Garden District. They are known for being a community hangout spot and offer everything a coffee shop lover requires. Great coffee, tasty baked goods (including vegan and gluten free), free Wifi, plenty of work space, and a friendly environment. They also have a healthy food menu with items like acai bowls and salads. It was obvious each time I visited that this is one of the most popular New Orleans coffee shops with the locals.
Honorable Mention - SpitFire Coffee
One of the best New Orleans coffee shops for top quality espresso and strong lattes
Spitfire has quite a big reputation for being such a small shop. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, this closet sized New Orleans coffee shop is perfect when you’re looking to grab and go. Quality coffee beans, smooth pour overs, and strong lattes are Spitfire’s specialty. If you’re a coffee snob that’s picky when it comes to top notch espresso, this is your place.
