Need a break while touring the city or a spot for a quality coffee to go? See my list of the best coffee shops and cafes in Bruges! These spots offer tasty espresso, a welcoming atmosphere, and convenient locations for visitors and tourists.
Bruges (or Brugge) may be "touristy" and it does get crowded...but that doesn't stop me from loving this city. It's beyond charming and picturesque.
You'll see why it's nicknamed "Venice of the North" the moment you start wandering the canals. Pair those lovely canals with colorful buildings, Flemish architecture, cobblestoned streets, cozy cafes, and friendly locals...well...I'm sure you'll see why Bruges is worth a visit: crowds and all.
Bruges also does not disappoint in the cafe and coffee shop scene. It didn't take long for me to discover my favorites. These 5 Bruges coffee shops are the ones I find myself returning to again and again.
I've ensured each spot is located within the historic city center. So no matter where you are in your sightseeing itinerary, you'll never be far from a quality coffee.

1. Coffeebar Adriaan
My #1 pick for the best cafe in bruges
Coffeebar Adriaan has been my favorite coffee shop in Bruges for several years. A big factor is the cozy atmosphere and friendly service.
This is not only a popular spot for coffee/tea but also breakfast.
The prices are great considering the location; €3.50 Americano, €4.50 flat white, €4.80 French press, and €4 cakes/pies.
I usually stick with a hot Americano as the coffee flavor is on point.
Coffeebar Adriaan is one of the few places where it's acceptable to whip out your laptop and work for a bit (WiFi is available). Just be mindful of busy times, like breakfast, and to not overstay your welcome.

2. Cafune Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery
One of the best coffee shops in Bruges for a flat white and carrot cake
A proper flat white can sometimes be hard to come by in Belgium...and many areas in Europe for that matter. If you're a flat white drinker, Cafune is a must. It's consistently my favorite flat white in Bruges.
They also offer a small selection of light bites like yogurt bowls, banana bread, and a few cake options. The carrot cake is divine.
The food menu is extended on weekends to include items like avocado toast, acai bowls, pancakes, and oats.
The space is cozy but small. Cafune is best for a quick coffee stop or to go.
3. The Novel
One of the best Bruges cafes for friendly service, homemade cakes, and iced macchiatos
You can tell everything is done with care at The Novel. From the little piece of brownie or cake they add to every drink to the thoughtful preparation of their breakfast plates and homemade cakes. It's obvious the owner takes pride in their little Brugge cafe.
Tucked just outside the busy city center (a 4-minute walk from Grote Markt), The Novel is a nice break from the crowds.
The cafe is small, but the seating inside is beyond homey. There are also several spots outside for sunny days.
My favorite items include the iced macchiato, homemade banana bread, scrambled eggs with salmon and fresh-baked bread, chocolate cake, and classic Americano.
4. Espressobar - I Love Coffee
One of the most spacious Bruges coffee shops with a nice back patio
Espressobar - I Love Coffee is a good option when you have a larger party or just want space to spread out. Not only will you find ample seating inside, but there is also a large patio in the back. WiFi is also available.
Tea lovers will appreciate the long list of loose-leaf teas; as in 25+ options.
I was surprised to see my favorite coffee drink from Greece, espresso freddo, on the menu. It's a seriously frothed espresso (with sweetener if you want it) served over ice. Delicious on a warm day. The flat white is also very good at Espressobar.
Every milk alternative or flavoring you can think of is on the menu for those who like variety.
If you read through reviews, you'll quickly see the top complaint is the cost. It is one of the more expensive Bruges coffee shops (€5.50 tea, €6 espresso freddo, €5 flat white).
I usually stick with drinks here as I don't think the food is worth the price.
5. Vero Caffe
ONE OF THE best cafes in Bruges for a full brunch/lunch menu and vegan options
Vero Caffe is where I head when I'm looking for a full menu of cafe classics like pancakes, avocado toast, yogurt bowls, and more.
The pancakes are my favorite. If you're up for something a little more unique, order their savory pancakes. The salmon with herb cheese and the egg, bacon, maple, and pecan pancakes are both very good.
The hummus toast with grilled bell peppers and roasted chickpeas makes for the perfect snack.
You'll find all the typical drinks at this cute Bruges cafe alongside some more exciting flavors like a speculoos or roasted marshmallow latte.
The interiors are bright and colorful and there are a few patio tables from when the weather is nice.
Vegans and vegetarians will have plenty to choose from as well.
Honorable Mention - Brazila Coffee Roasters & Tea Brugge
Brazila Coffee Roasters and Tea Brugge serves up quality coffee and offers an excellent front patio. Perfect for people-watching.
This is a great spot for coffee purists as the espresso is top quality. Pair your morning coffee with one of the croissants!
I was kind of surprised when I went back and read some of the reviews on Google. A lot of people complain that the owner is rude. I did not find that to be the case and my guess is that tourists who aren't mindful (i.e. take a table for four when it's just two of you, expecting immediate service when it's obviously a small shop with one or two employees, etc.) test his patience.
If you want a simple, quality coffee, and a nice patio, Brazila Coffee Roasters is a great option.
In Summary
I hope this post helped you find a few Bruges coffee shops to try. These spots are perfect for a break while touring the city. Whether you're looking for a takeaway coffee or somewhere to sit for bit, one of these cafes will fit the bill!
