Where to Stay in Willamette Valley | Top Hotel Picks From a Local
Take a hint from a local and discover where to stay in Willamette Valley. These are the TOP bed and breakfasts and hotels in Oregon wine country!
Ten years ago, I would get a blank stare when I mentioned I was from the Willamette Valley. No one had heard of Willamette Valley, let alone McMinnville (my hometown). Fast forward to today...almost everyone lights up and says it's on their list of places to visit.
This area of Oregon has transitioned from unknown to a tourist destination for wine lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Oregon wine country has become a lovely alternative to Napa Valley. It’s more affordable and considerably less touristy. The tasting rooms are far less crowded and offer an intimate vibe. The scenery is stunning, if it isn’t raining, and you’re not far from hiking, waterfalls, Portland, and the coast.
Being from this area, I am constantly asked where to stay in Willamette Valley and which are the best hotels in Oregon wine country. Because Willamette Valley is fairly new to the tourist scene, you aren’t going to find a long list of boutique hotels or luxury bed and breakfasts. There are no big brand names like Marriott or Hilton here.
The locals are also VERY adamant about not becoming Napa Valley 2.0. Hence why the Gwendolyn Hotel (a proposed $60 million luxury hotel in downtown McMinnville) was voted down.
To save you the headache of trying to figure out which are the best Willamette Valley bed and breakfasts and hotels, I’m going to take you through the places I've been recommending to family and friends for years.
Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel and spa, a quirky vintage trailer park (yes, you read that right), or a charming boutique hotel, I’ve got the perfect place for you.
McMinnville, Newberg, Dundee, Carlton...Which is the Best Town to Base Yourself In?
Like Napa Valley, Willamette Valley is a string of several towns — McMinnville, Newberg, Dundee, Carlton, etc.
McMinnville, my hometown, is without a doubt the best town to stay in the Willamette Valley. And it’s not because I’m biased.
McMinnville has the most adorable downtown area and some of the best restaurants in Oregon wine country. It’s a great area for easy access to the top wineries. If you stay near downtown, you’ll be within walking distance of boutique shops, restaurants, bars, and breakfast spots.
Basing yourself in McMinnville will give you a well-rounded trip. It offers small-town charm while being big enough to have plenty of options for where to eat, shop, and wine taste.
If you're looking for a more remote stay, consider booking a short-term rental in Dundee. This tiny town is in the heart of wine country, with many of the top wineries being a mere 5 to 15-minute drive away.

1. Atticus Hotel
One of the best Willamette Valley hotels for a boutique experience with an ideal location in Downtown McMinnville
The Atticus Hotel offers 36 cozy rooms, an on-site Mediterranean restaurant, valet, and bikes to ride around town.
This 4-star hotel goes out of its way to support the local community. Works by local artists are featured throughout. Mattresses, tile, soap, furniture, light fixtures, etc., are sourced from Oregon artisans and companies.
The rooms are what I would call comfortable luxury. Top notch in quality and detail, without being pretentious. You'll find touches like a fireplace and wine fridge in every room, blackout curtains, and king-sized beds. They even provide a French press and coffee from Flag and Wire, my favorite coffee shop in McMinnville.
No two rooms are alike. From Micro Studios (inspired by the Tiny House Movement) to a luxury bunk room that fits 6 adults, or an 1,100 square foot penthouse, there's a room style to match your taste. Pet-friendly suites are also available.
If you’re looking for a comfortable, local stay, this is it. The attention to detail in the rooms and common areas is on point.

Youngberg Hill is a hidden gem. You'll feel like you're in the know after staying here.
Located just 10 minutes from downtown McMinnville, Youngberg Hill is the perfect place to base yourself for a memorable Oregon wine country getaway.
The hilltop location offers spectacular views (some of the best I've experienced in this region).
This Willamette Valley bed and breakfast truly feels like a nature retreat...without being completely out of the way. You get the best of both worlds at Youngberg Hill. Minutes from some of the best wineries and restaurants, yet, secluded with gorgeous nature views.

3. The Allison Inn and Spa
One of the best hotels in Oregon wine country for a luxury getaway, complete with an incredible spa
The Allison Inn and Spa, located in Newberg, is one of the most relaxing Willamette Valley hotels with luxury amenities.
Before the Allison Inn and Spa came along, your best bet for a hotel was a Best Western. Not kidding. The arrival of the region's first 5-star hotel put Willamette Valley on the map for tourists seeking a wine country getaway.
The Allison Inn and Spa is nestled along 35 hillside acres and offers stunning views. The rooms are cozy with fireplaces, down bedding, patios to enjoy the surrounding views, and soaking tubs.
The spa is what sets this Willamette Valley hotel apart. There are twelve treatment rooms and the facility is a spacious 15,000 square feet. Amenities like the swimming pool, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and fitness room are available for guests of the hotel.
This is the spot to book a few treatments if you’re looking to splurge (even if you aren't staying at the hotel). Every facial and massage I’ve received has exceeded expectations. A treatment, or two...or three, would be the perfect way to end a busy day of wine tastings or spend a few hours if you have a gap in your itinerary.
This is one of the best places to stay in Oregon wine country if you're going for that “nature escape" vibe. The Allison Inn and Spa offers walking trails, a vineyard, gardens, and plenty of patio space and outdoor seating.
4. A’Tuscan Estate Bed and Breakfast

Prefer the cozy vibe of a small bed and breakfast where you feel like you’re staying in the guest room of a close friend? Then A’Tuscan Estate is one of the best places to stay in the Willamette Valley for you.
The main building is a 1928 Colonial-style home and offers 8 rooms. There is also a guest cottage, perfect for a group trip with multiple couples or families.
A’Tuscan Estate is one of the best Willamette Valley bed and breakfasts for walkability. Located just five blocks from downtown McMinnville, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, tasting rooms, and boutique shops.
A three-course homemade breakfast is offered each morning. Gluten-free and vegan diets are easily accommodated. I had the gluten-free version on my last visit and it was delicious...you would have never known it gluten-free.
Breakfast is the perfect time to plan out the day ahead. Erin, the owner, and her staff are ready with suggestions.
If you want something a bit more intimate, value a host who will make sure every comfort is taken care of, and prefer walkability, this is the place for you!
5. The Vintages Trailer Resort
One of the best places to stay in Oregon wine country for a quirky experience
Go for the 1956 Spartan Royal complete with a private outdoor soaking tub. Or, go retro glam with the 1957 Airstream. Book the Shasta trailer if you plan to bring your furry friend.
Each trailer comes with cruiser bikes and a propane grill if you want to cook. Be sure to check out their Instagram to get a feel for it.
The Vintages is located just outside of McMinnville, in Dayton, and around the corner from a few of my favorite wineries, including Stoller and Sokol Blosser.
